Dealing With Difficult People/Fighting Fair
September 15, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Dealing with conflict is a part of everyday life. When these moments of disagreement or difference of opinion arise, most people just want to be heard, to be respected and to be treated fairly. When people push our buttons, frustration, anxiety and stress can develop in both parties involved. Nothing ruins a moment faster than suddenly finding one’s self in conflict with another person, especially if we don’t fully know why it might be happening.
Tacit Knowledge will be working with the AIWCC (Alberta Immigrant Women and Children Centre), as staff enhance patterns of response that reflect the intentions and professional goals they create with clients who sometimes appear resistant to the supports they are receiving. This PD Learning session teaches the skills that are essential for understanding and soothing heightened emotional interactions between staff and their clients. It explains how conflict is sometimes necessary – it strengthens the skills needed to argue effectively and respectfully – and it shows how to make every moment of conflict result in a win/win situation. This session also introduces participants to the key dynamics involved in building positive interactions with others in a way that will enhance relationships, work productivity and personal confidence.
This is a closed Training facilitated by Kim Silverthorn BA, RPC, MPCC, CT. Kim has over 30 years of experience as a therapist, and often works with families/agencies who are trying to effectively address the stress that exists in their lives.
