Dealing with Difficult People

When working with the general public is part of an organization’s mandate, the relationships that are created can sometimes be challenging. When the public’s perspective of their own wants and needs are not aligned with the task requirements of the organization, interactions between a citizen and a staff member can become heated, tense and even turn abusive in nature. This puts a strain on everyone who is involved – the public and the staff alike. And de-escalating these tense interactions with the public becomes a necessary skill to know how to implement.
On November 4th, Kim Silverthorn BA, RPC, MPCC, CT is facilitating the “Dealing With Difficult People” PD session with the George Spady Society Medically Supported Detox Team. This is a closed Training session. Kim has over 34 years of experience as a therapist, and often works with families/agencies who are trying to improve their support skills and effectively address the stress that exists in their lives.
This session helps participants build a pattern of response within themselves that reflect their own intentions and work values. It teaches skills that are essential for understanding and soothing heightened emotional interactions between people. It also introduces participants to the key dynamics involved in building positive interactions with others in a way that will enhance relationships, work productivity and personal confidence.
