Managing Disclosures of Abuse Made By Children – A Duty To Report

July 23 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Managing Disclosures of Abuse Made By Children - A Duty To Report Training.
There are some very specific procedures that must be followed (legally) whenever a child/youth shares a disclosure of abuse or neglect. This kind of situation can be quite stressful for the professionals who have to manage the next steps in the disclosure process, especially when they know that Children’s Services, Police Services and the court system are also going to become involved, at least in some capacity.

Join us via Zoom, on Wednesday, July 23rd – from 12 noon to 1:30pm (PST) – or 1:00pm to 2:30pm MST – for Managing Disclosures of Abuse Made By Children – A Duty To Report Training.

This educational training session is designed to provide professionals who work with children in any capacity (counsellors/therapists, teachers, librarians, social workers, nurses, doctors, therapists, day care workers, ministerial workers, etc) with an understanding of their appropriate role and the protocols involved when someone under the age of 18 discloses an incident of abuse (physical, sexual, emotional/mental) or neglect.

This Training is being facilitated by Kim Silverthorn BA, RPC, MPCC, CT of Tacit Knowledge. Kim is a therapist with more than 30 years of experience. She was employed directly by Children Services, and worked in partnership with Police Services, for more than 16 years. The information in this session is sometimes specific to Alberta legislation, but also includes information pertaining to legislation in all other provinces/territories as well.

Registration for this Training is $75.00/person – this can be sent by etransfer to counsellors@tacitknows.com. (For groups of 5 or more participants who register together, this fee is $50/person.)

The Training is worth 1.5 hours of Continuing Education Credits (as approved by the Canadian Professional Counsellors Association). Certificates will be available upon request, at no additional cost. And a free cheat sheet relating to the steps to take with the Reporting Process will be made available to all participants, after the Training has been completed.
