Open Minds, Open Pages (Teen Mental Wellness Series)
September 5 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Join Tacit Knowledge and David Qiau for a 3-part Workshop series called Open Minds, Open Pages – which happens on August 29th, September 5th and September 12th – each Thursday evening at 5:00pm (to 6:00pm) – these are FREE, in-person Workshops. Each session will be offered at the Leduc Public Library (2 Alexandra Park, Leduc). Participants can attend all or just some of the sessions, as they wish.
August 29th – Navigating Teen Mental Wellness (presented by Oksana Atwood from the Riseup Society). This presentation explores practical strategies for teens, combating stigma, using social media mindfully and prioritizing self-care.
September 5th – Foundations To Stay in Balance (presented by Kim Silverthorn BA, RPC, MPCC, CT – from Tacit Knowledge. Kim has over 30 years of experience as a therapist, and often works with families/agencies who are trying to effectively address the stress that exists in their lives.) This session teaches 4 key aspects of daily life that create a foundation for healthy mental wellness overall – how the stress hormone cortisol can easily get overproduced (and the signs to watch for) – 4 ways to dump excess cortisol when tough times are happening in life – and ways to boost happy hormones, to help prevent excess cortisol from developing and to enhance mental wellness.
September 12th – Building Bridges (presented by Jenna Weir, the BCG Leduc Youth Coordinator and Karley Spelrem, the Leduc FCSS Youth Outreach Worker). This presentation focuses on nurturing healthy relationships for mental well-being.
David Qiau is a 15 year old Leduc student who has put together this 3-part series called Open Minds, Open Pages – it is a program designed to educate kids (in grade 7 and higher) and their parents about the common mental health challenges that today’s teens are facing. The goal is to provide these young minds with valuable insights and resources that can support their healthy well-being. David believes that early education on these mental wellness topics can have a profound and lasting impact on our youth population.
Everyone is welcome to attend (you do NOT need to be a resident of Leduc to participate.) Refreshments will be served. To register for this Workshop, please contact: www.leduclibrary.ca
